Jessie Jing Bio

Jessie Jing is a composer, music producer, and jazz pianist from Beijing, China, currently based in Baltimore. Known for her psychedelic sensibilities and soulful melodies, she merges nu-jazz, neo-soul, and experimental elements with psychedelic feels, driven by an improvisational language grounded in jazz.

Jessie began composing at the age of 14 and quickly gained recognition; at 17, her original work The Outsider was selected as one of the top 10 original songs in the Tencent Music rankings. Her entry into film music began in high school when she was invited to score a microfilm—a formative experience that ignited her passion for film and game scoring. Since then, she has embraced the storytelling power of music for visual media, exploring new ways to merge emotion, narrative, and sound.

As a performer, Jessie is an active jazz pianist and keyboardist. Classically trained from childhood, she discovered jazz at 18 and immediately connected with its expressive freedom. Since then, she has become an active performer, showcasing her talents in numerous concerts and shows. As the keyboardist of the fusion jazz band Blue Haze, Jessie has spearheaded many charity performances, blending her passion for jazz with a commitment to giving back to the community.

Jessie is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Music for New Media at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She joined the experimental band Røpe during her freshman year as a keyboardist and later expanded her role to vocalist. With Røpe, she has performed across Baltimore and Washington DC, contributing to the band’s eclectic blend of post-punk, free jazz, and avant-garde influences.

Her recent professional work includes serving as a music assistant to renowned jazz pianist Aaron Parks and composing the score for Stuck, a short thriller created in collaboration with an MFA filmmaker from MICA. She also performed an improvised live score for the silent film Hypocrites at the Maryland Film Festival 2025—an appearance that received enthusiastic praise, with festival director KJ noting, “Everyone I spoke to raved about the experience and Jessie’s performance in particular. She is a gem.”

Continually expanding her creative boundaries, Jessie is dedicated to honing her voice as an independent artist and exploring new intersections of jazz, electronic music, and visual media.
